MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING

by William Shakespeare

Much Ado About Nothing was divided into three portions and split between three directors. I was responsbile for Acts IV and V. Each director was encouraged to set their portion of the play in a different time period. Act IV and V were set in 2006, just after the remaining Italian troops pulled out of Iraq. This play was staged outdoors in the Flatt Amphitheatre. It was a challenge for all of the directors to embrace the nature of outdoor performance. Within the rehearsal process, the actors were given the freedom to react to the environment outside of the stage, as opposed to traditional fourth wall productions. This allowed the actors to feel more comfortable in this foreign environment and led to exciting choices made in performance.
